Description

Mma Ramotswe, daughter of the late Obed Ramotswe, is now the announced fiancée of Mr J. L. B. Matekoni. It is a fine match; she is the founder and owner of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency and he is the proprietor of Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors.

But Precious Ramotswe is not as happy as she should be under the circumstances. The Detective Agency is struggling with its finances and Mr J. L. B. Matekoni is unusually low and neglecting his garage.

But with the help of the reliable Mma Makutsi and a few interesting cases, things are sure to get back on course.

Vividly read with a lot of mispronunciations

Alexander McCall Smith's no.1 Ladies Detective Agency books are always a treat to read... and to listen. While Hillary Neville does a tremendously good job of bring the story alive, her lack of knowledge on how to pronounce certain South African English, Afrikaans and Setswana words, irritates my ear. Especially mispronouncing some of the Setswana surnames of the main characters.

When she uses the greeting "Dumela," it sounds horrible, mispronounced...

Gentle humour with a message

Raises smiles rather than laughter. Very agreeable reading with happy endings - eventually. Perhaps a little simplistic, but if you want some feelgood literature that doesn't demand too much, well this is for you.
