Avis de l'équipe

This is the captivating psychological thriller audiobook The Girl on the Train, written by Paula Hawkins and narrated by Clare Corbett, India Fisher and Louise Brealey. Listeners are drawn into the seemingly ordinary world of Rachel. Every morning, Rachel observes from her train window the daily rituals of those in the houses next to the railway tracks. Rachel longs to join these people. But all is not as it seems. Rachel glimpses something shocking from her window one morning. In this intense story, Audible listeners are hooked - does fate lead Rachel to see this? Or have the people in the houses been watching Rachel?

Description

Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She's even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy.

And then she sees something shocking. It's only a minute until the train moves on, but it's enough. Now everything's changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she's only watched from afar. Now they'll see - she's much more than just the girl on the train....

Excellente lecture

Too good not to submit praise

I devoured this audiobook in just under two days (and nights). I’m not much of a novel reader, but in the recent weeks that have seen me increasingly engaged in audiobooks the game is rapidly changing ... This has been my most rewarding purchase yet ! The story is delivered in a form and at a pace that I found particularly effective and gripping; fragmented and hazy, gradually shedding light but at the same time casting more and more shadows on a decidedly sordid affair. The intertwining narratives of its three main protagonists come together in a fascinating, multi-angled and puzzle-like fashion that had me riveted from beginning to end, using every slot of free-time I could find to listen on.

I often become wary during a good read that the ending might not meet up to my growing expectations, hoping that I won’t be let down by an all too frequent anticlimax, but this one most definitely didn’t disappoint, and even added an ultimate stirring twist in the closing minutes after I thought that all had been revealed.

This review wouldn’t be complete without paying tribute to the marvelous voice talents that largely contributed to making “The girl on the train” such a compelling and heart-throbbing listening experience. Clare Corbett’s performance (Rachel), representing the larger contribution to the narrative, is remarkable; a warm and beautiful voice, passionate without ever sounding forced, which is quite a feat considering the high level of drama, and the ever-changing moods and “states” of her character. Totally believable. Louise Brealey (Megan) is equally brilliant, with her soft-toned, slightly husky voice, and that lightly peppered Northern England accent that I personally find heart-melting (obviously a subjective view). I immediately thought of Jodie Whittaker as “Beth” in Broadchurch and the image and tragedy-filled atmosphere stuck with me throughout, in what is arguably a rather fitting parallel ... I have already added both names to my growing list of “voice talent forces to be reckoned with” for my upcoming purchases ...

A truly wonderful audiobook !

Highly enjoyable

Avez-vous d'autres commentaires ?

The story of this book caught me unexpectedly. Basically, it's the story of a missing woman, but it is so much more than that. All three women have an interesting story to tell. As I discovered things about them, my opinion on some characters shifted suddenly from hatred to understanding, or the other way around. I did not think I'd enjoy it that much, but, honestly, I couldn't stop listening, and only sleep left me with no other choice. The narration is shifting from one character to another, and this kind of narration usually makes me feel frustrated, but here, it's the other way around, because every bit of the three stories gives you a different point of view, sometimes on the same moment, and allows you to see it from a different perspective.
Concerning the narration itself, I really enjoyed Megan for the softness in her voice, and Rachel. Anna's narration was a bit stiff to my taste, but globally, I was carried away into the story from the first sentence to the last one. As a first experience with audiobooks, I can say it won't be the last.

Not bad at all.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The author had me guessing who the killer actually was till almost the end. This is one of those books that would be hard to put down. Very entertaining.

Wow!

What did you love best about The Girl on the Train?

It really was a thrilling ride!

What did you like best about this story?

The three viewpoints, all in first person.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

All the characters were flawed - in a pretty major way.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wanted to slap Rachelle!

Any additional comments?

This was an excellent reading of a great thriller. I highly recommend reading it before it's turned into a movie.

Not so much like Gone Girl but good

I must admit, I got this book because it was said it’s a bit like Gone Girl. Even if I can imagine what readers meant, I find the two stories are not so much alike. I enjoyed the book nonetheless, especially because the the main narrator does such a great job. With the second and third narrator I had some problems but that was maybe because I couldn’t get a good grip on the characters they were reading.
However, the book is well worth the credit and listening time. If you like your stories wicked, you should give it a try :)
Have fun!

Great story which kept me guessing all the way trough, could be somewhat slow sometimes though. I loved the voices of Rachel and Megan but hated the voice of Anna, it was almost unbearable to listen to. Overall I ended up loving the book!

Heartbroken Alcoholic Woman turns Sleuth

The story is fascinating, but also highly abrasive, it is not always pleasant to listen to. This is not the fault of the speakers, they did a great job.

The misery of lost love, the end of a marriage, the shards of a broken life and the rapid decline into alcoholism are too real and the emotions too raw to be taken as entertainment. Unfortunately this side of the story rings very true, while some of the aspects and details of the later crime cross the line of the plausible.

Rachel, the heroine of the story, lost her job, because of her drinking problems, but continues to commute every day to London to keep up appearances. Every day she passes her former home, where her ex-husband now lives with his new wife Anne and their little baby daughter Evie. Every morning she also watches a young couple, some houses down the road and fantasizes about their live. She calls them Jason and Jess. In her romantic dream world the life of this couple turns into everything she wanted to have, but lost forever. One day Jess goes missing and somehow Rachel is drawn into that mystery and she feels forced to find out, what happened.

The story is painfully slow at times, but there is enough tension built up to keep you going. It is after all a good book.

Storyline leider sehr flach.
