Description
A hilarious tale of dogs, fogs, bogs and moving to Ireland. For many years, Nick and Lesley Albert had shared a dream of living far away from the stress of modern life, and when the opportunity arose, they jumped in with both feet. Almost overnight, they decided to move to beautiful County Clare, in the west of Ireland - a country they had never before visited.
With little experience or money they set about renovating a derelict farmhouse and building a new life together - hindered only by their lack of skill, 22 chickens, two ducks, and several unruly dogs. Bursting with comical anecdotes and witty observations, blended with occasional moments of exquisite sadness, this is a delightful true story of an English couple searching for a new life in the quiet solitude of rural Ireland. Marley and Me meets Around Ireland with a Fridge. If you love dogs, Ireland and life, then you will adore An Irish Tail.

Good book. Audio ruined it for me
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I should have read the Kindle edition because in my mind, I would have used Irish accent and slang to give the humorous antidotes some flavor. The narrator spoke in low monotone with a London accent using no inflection whatsoever.
What did you like best about this story?
The potential and the idea of downsizing one's life.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Paul Douglass?
Anyone who could mimic English/Irish accents with some sort of heart.
Was An Irish Tail worth the listening time?
Painful to listen to as it had potential.

Laugh your sox off!
situational-humor, verbal-humor, laugh-riot, memoir, Ireland
Ever tried home renovations? Ever moved out to a rural area? Either is crazy making. While reading this book I totally related it to my friends moving from the suburbs to upstate Nowheresville into a disaster of an old farmhouse solidly nestled into Amish country. Nearly the same problems including the dogs and chickens! Difference was that husband was adept and had only an ordinary sense of humor, and they remained in the same country. This family had so much more to adapt to, learn from, and laugh at! Reading this book is a laugh fest of the first order! He makes the most frustrating things hilarious! Absolutely loved it!
Paul Douglass has the perfect delivery in his narration and it feels like he is the author!

A thoroughly enjoying listen
Thank you for such a fun romp through your lives in County Clare. Having travelled there twice from Sunny Southern California in search of my own roots I enjoyed every minute of your adventures.
Your mention of the McNamara Kelly house stopped me in my tracks as this is a family home of a great grand aunt twice removed.
I look forward to hearing more of your adventures.
