    Description

The saga of the Logan family - made famous in the Newbery Medal-winning Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry - concludes in a long-awaited and deeply fulfilling story.

In her 10th book, Mildred Taylor completes her sweeping saga about the Logan family of Mississippi, which is also the story of the civil rights movement in America of the 20th century.

Cassie Logan, first met in Song of the Trees and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, is a young woman now, searching for her place in the world, a journey that takes her from Toledo to California, to law school in Boston, and, ultimately, in the '60s, home to Mississippi to participate in voter registration. She is witness to the now-historic events of the century: the Great Migration north, the rise of the civil rights movement, preceded and precipitated by the racist society of America, and the often violent confrontations that brought about change.

Rich, compelling storytelling is Ms. Taylor's hallmark, and she fulfills expectations as she brings to a close the stirring family story that has absorbed her for over 40 years. It is a story she was born to tell.

    Commentaires

"Taylor is unsparing in her depiction of the years of segregation and of the Black experience of white racism, bigotry, and injustice ... this never-didactic book is irresistibly readable, while the richly realized, highly empathic characters are unforgettable. Taylor's remarkable novel is, in sum, that rare exception: an absolutely indespensible book." (Booklist)

"This story also gives readers an up-close and personal view of key events of the civil rights movement. In this Logan swan song, Taylor is at her best. Surely the crown jewel of the Logan family Saga." (Kirkus)

    Amazing

I loved the story. I have read all of the books in the Logan series and I have been awaiting this sequel for years!!!!! The ending is sad though and I would have liked for Cassie to have married Moe.

    Wonderful book for adults too!

My hope is we get at least one more book in this series. I really want Cassie and him to end up together...

    Abrupt Ending

Ends very abruptly, that’s biggest negative. Definitely not for younger readers, as with Roll of Thunder

Kept me engaged in the story!

Thank you to both the author and the narrator, they made this story come alive and made me aware of the injustice found in our country and the importance of the Civil Rights Movement.

    It was good

First, Im upset this book was not read by a black woman. That kind of ruined the vibe for from the start. Part one was okay. I didnt like the meaninglessness of some of the racial stands taken. The movie theater incident seemed totally unrealistic in that Cassie had no real goal or point in mind for that standoff. There was i viously more to loose than gain in that instance. Part two was good. The political narrative was good but I would have like more actual story. Thank you Ms Taylor for the finale to the Logan series.

A perfect ending to the Logan family.

I loved the books about the Logan family. I read them all. I loved how their sense of family was so strong and I loved how they used their brains to overcome adversity. Now they are all adults. I can’t say this has been my favorite book, but it was a perfect ending for the members of the Logan family. It is a must read for fans of the Logan family.
