Histoire
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

When Murderbot discovers a dead body on Preservation Station, it knows it is going to have to assist station security to determine who the body is (was), how they were killed (that should be relatively straightforward, at least), and why (because apparently that matters to a lot of people - who knew?). Yes, the unthinkable is about to happen: Murderbot must voluntarily speak to humans! Again!

All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Humanity has colonized the planets - interstellar travel is still beyond our reach, but the solar system has become a dense network of colonies. But there are tensions - the mineral-rich outer planets resent their dependence on Earth and Mars and the political and military clout they wield over the Belt and beyond. Now, when Captain Jim Holden's ice miner stumbles across a derelict, abandoned ship, he uncovers a secret that threatens to throw the entire system into war.

My name is Gary Rendell. I'm an astronaut. When they asked me as a kid what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said, "astronaut, please!" I dreamed astronaut, I worked astronaut, I studied astronaut. I got lucky; when a probe exploring the Oort Cloud found a strange alien rock and an international team of scientists was put together to go and look at it, I made the draw. I got even luckier. When disaster hit and our team was split up, scattered through the endless cold tunnels, I somehow survived. Now I'm lost, and alone, and scared, and there's something horrible in here. Lucky me.

Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

In her new novella, Sunday Times best-selling author Becky Chambers imagines a future in which, instead of terraforming planets to sustain human life, explorers of the solar system instead transform themselves. Adriane is one such explorer. As an astronaut on an extrasolar research vessel, she and her fellow crewmates sleep between worlds and wake up each time with different features. Her experience is one of fluid body and stable mind and of a unique perspective on the passage of time. Back on Earth, society changes dramatically from decade to decade, as it always does.

Very Scalzian indeed!
In the intro Scalzi promises that the stories will cheer us up, make us laugh and that there's one that will make his mother in law cry.
Well, I got cheered up, laughed and ugly cried on the damn story.
This is short, sweet and fulfilling, much like a Christmas dinner at your parents house. I highly recommend both.
ps Being Brazilian, there were some references that got way over my head and I had to look up online, but American folks will laugh a lot.

enjoyed it!
This one was pretty interesting and entertaining and perfect for a quick Christmas read or listen. It's a collection of short stories.I laughed a few times. Some of the stories were more heartfelt than funny and sometimes I wasn't sure when one started and when one began because I was listening to it while driving and I feel like you really have to be paying attention. There were some adorable stories in here and i loved how one was told kind of like the night before christmas. Some of the stories were told in interview style but It was a pretty enjoyable listen. I'm not even sure how to review this one but I liked it.

Enjoy, no matter what time of year it is...
I'm always looking forward to the Christmas season because I love Christmas stories and I love finding that perfect tale of home, love, and hope, from authors that I adore... And so I chose this book...
There are several stories in this collection that are very typical Scalzi: Amusing, witty, etc, but I don't suggest that you buy this one at full price, unless that is, you're a huge Scalzi fan (raises own hand). LOL!
But, there are at least two stories in here that very much fills my needs: Christmas in July... a delightful Christmas story, albeit at the wrong time of year, and the other was Sarah's Sister, both stories are brimming with all the love, hope and family joy I could ever want!
So have a Merry Christmas... no matter what time of year it is!

Fun holiday read
Positively surprised. Didn't know what to expect but many of these stories are Scalzi at his finest, with irreverent and hilarious interpretations of everything we know about Christmas. There are a couple of fillers but they are more than offset by great stories like the interview with the inn keeper. Now I finally know why the animals all look at baby Jesus in their manger....I had to laugh so hard I almost drove off the road.

The very Scalziest of Christmases
It's hard to summarize this better than the title already does. The humor is classic Scalzi, as is the irreverence, and the occasional heartfelt moments. I really enjoyed this anthology and look forward to listening to it again next December as well.

Ho, ho.
