Easy to fall for the characters, revel in their flaws, celebrate their successes and evidently the main character is amazing. But the portrayal of most ladies in the story as ladies of court with no understanding of the world was disappointing. The reading of the story could have been much better, too. Overall, I love where the story is going, but a less dedicated listener of the magic of fantasy could have dropped off for lack of a compelling and strong anchor to the story. Will see if book 2 grows on these elements.

... but certainly not my last. The story is compelling, the writing is clear and engaging, but given the phenomenal leaps in time to describe the rise and fall of humanity over 30000 years, it is tough to start to fall in love with the characters only to leapfrog thousands of years into the future and start the process again... am certain there are worlds of stories in there to enjoy.

Having never considered myself to be one to enjoy fantasy especially when it brushes horror, imagine my surprise when a master like Gaiman sprinkled the two with humour and made it absolutely riveting with a series of short stories. Stay the course, let the stories envelop you and enjoy!

An absolute must for anyone attempting to understand who we are and where we cone from, and how we came to be as a society. Compelling arguments that leave a lot to be pondered. A great read!

There are lots of good stories out there, but through DUNE, Frank Herbert has given the world a true blend of the fantastic, sprinkled with some reality. The beauty of an audiobook, is that it takes our consciousness back to the times when stories were shared mouth to ear. A great way to enjoy these stories!
