The Mister tells the story of well-to-do (and well-off!) Maxim Trevelyan, who is living the high-life with good lucks, aristocratic connections, and no need to work. Things change when Maxim is charged with the responsibility of inheriting his family's wealth, estates and titles. It is not a role well suited to Maxim. In this interview, we spoke to E. L. James about setting The Mister in Albania, Fifty Shades going viral, and the music playlists that accompany her writing.

Je n'ai pas du tout accroché aux livres 50 shades, les trouvant repetitifs et penible a ecouter. J'ai compris que je ne m'accroche pas du tout non plus avec l'auteur qui est sans aucun enthousiasme dans cet entretien.

Eugh. What a bore! After not really enjoying the first volume of Fifty Shades, but at least getting a little turned on occasionally, I thought it was time to attempt volume 2. I should not have bothered. What an incredibly dull story line. Same people, same lust for each other but now everyone knows about it and they know the rules. There's no more anticipation or surprise. I can't even count the number of "Oh Christian"s... Well done Becca Battoe for reading the whole thing with enthusiasm. I couldn't finish it - bored. No idea how this series made so many headlines when it was released???

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook addition of According to Yes, the hilarious new novel by Dawn French. The Foreign Land of the Very Wealthy - otherwise known as Manhattan's Upper East Side - has its own rigid code of behaviour. It's a code strictly adhered to by the Wilder-Bingham family. Emotional displays - unacceptable. Unruly behaviour - definitely not welcome. Fun - no thanks. This is Glenn Wilder-Bingham's kingdom.

Such a fun read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - I've been looking around for a while to get some good comedy reads and not had much luck (mostly led to autobiographies of comedians, which is much less funny than their comedy). This story was crazy and fun and was an absolute pleasure to listen to. What a great team of readers! My imagination was in full swing with the descriptions of the New York penthouse. Nothing was laborious. Characters were great - all relatable and believable. Story was nuts. But the book also provided had quite a lot of positive physchology - some good life lessons! A great read. I'll definitely be looking for some more Dawn French...

Billy Connolly may be a citizen of the world, but in his heart he's never been far from his homeland. Made in Scotland is Billy's unique and intimate portrait of his native Scotland, a love letter to the places and people that made him. It's an adventure inspired by a single incident: the moment Billy received his Knighthood and was asked, 'How does it feel to have achieved all this when you came from nothing?' His response was, 'But I did come from something!'

Very interesting autobiography (although I réalise autobiography is not my favorite genre...) By the end I had got over my disappointment that it was not read by billy. A lot of what I enjoy about his humour is the way he says things - Gordon Kennedy has a nice voice but it is not Billy...

From the outrageously filthy and oddly innocent comedienne and star of the powerful 2015 film I Smile Back Sarah Silverman comes a memoir—her first book—that is at once shockingly personal, surprisingly poignant, and still pee-in-your-pants funny. If you like Sarah's television show The Sarah Silverman Program, or memoirs such as Chelsea Handler's Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea and Artie Lange's Too Fat to Fish, you'll love The Bedwetter.

Very nicely read by the author but I was expecting to laugh a bit more. The funniest parts are when she’s quoting her dad - wish I had his autobiography he sounds like a hoot!!!

Glad I persevered
Rédigé le : 08/01/2019
I was not taken by the first few chapters of this book but decided to persevere given all the very positive reviews. I'm glad I did. For me the story really turned around from when she meets Barack. Her relationship with him and the concessions she makes whilst maintaining her girl power and indépendance were enlightening. Sometimes moving, I didn't want to switch it off. Her voice is gentle and reassuring (almost dull if you're not in the mood!!) - certainly not the hyper enthusiastic American style we're now used to. Over all this book definitely reinforces the awesome image of this amazing couple and their suitability for that big White House and all that goes with it. I wish we could have him back! Suitably scathing of the new prez too! Read it! Don't let yourself get bored with the first part... although it is nice to know Michelle's background, it gets better later on.

All trails became dead ends. Tips that had at first seemed urgent now faded away. The waiting game began. Whoever had the manuscripts would want money, and a lot of it. They would surface eventually, but where and when, and how much would they want? The most daring and devastating heist in literary history targets a high security vault located deep beneath Princeton University. Valued at $25 million, the five manuscripts of F. Scott Fitzgerald's only novels are amongst the most valuable in the world....

Maybe fun for true book enthusiasts
Rédigé le : 17/07/2018
I found the story line slow and tedious. I selected it having loved Grisham as a teenager and enjoying other books read by Lavoy but this one was truly laborious to listen to. No twists no passion no crazy characters just extensive detail about failing authors and literary dealers... I even dropped off during the last chapters and can't be bothered to go back to listen to the climax. Boring...

I found this book was quite business/sales oriented to begin with but was glad to persist through to the last chapters. I'm sure I'll listen again in a few weeks/months to see how much I have put into practice.

No introduction to each story?!?
Rédigé le : 27/01/2017
I have been enjoying the stories which are dramatized excellently! But I have no idea which one I just listened to... there was no announcement of the title at the beginning nor at the end. Northanger Abbey is very well done (almost too much as each of the three episodes is fully detailed) but the next two have no introduction. Surely this could be amended for a more pleasurable listener experience?
