This absolute epic of a story is a classic, and is read with such class by Ralph Lister, that I would never want to read or listen to it any other way. A true joy throughout, which left me engrossed as I never have been before.

Excellent book, sometimes let down by average narration

The book itself is, unsurprisingly great. However, Dotrice’s narration, which has thus far been competent throughout the series, becomes frustrating at multiple points during this book; the main issue being gross inconsistencies between accents, not only between a particular character’s accent from the previous books (Arya switching from her standard Stark British English to some bizarre Scottish accent), or even changes to a character’s accent within this book, most notably Petyr Bailish, who changes accent 3 times during the course of the story, each different from his accent in the previous books.
Still, remains highly recommandable overall, but these inconsistencies were frustrating to listen to.

Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good alternative history book, in the style of Fatherland by Robert Harris. Good book from start to finish.

One of the best histories of the War ever written

An excellent, thoroughly informative and detailed exploration of the conflict, with particular appeal to western readers, unaware of many of the details of the war in China covered at length in this complete history.

Very interesting, and still relevant work, and a necessary read for all cultured people. Narration isn't outstanding though, too fast to give the listener time to process the dense writing.
