Histoire
First published in 1923, Reminiscences of a Stock Operator is the fictionalized biography of Jesse Livermore, one of the greatest speculators who ever lived. Now, almost 90 years later, it remains the most widely read, highly recommended investment book ever written. Generations of investors have found that it has more to teach them about themselves and other investors than years of experience in the market. They have also discovered that its trading advice and keen analyses of market price movements rings true.

A classic

The timeless lessons of this book makes it a valuable read. While technology and people change history often repeats itself.

Histoire
Peter Lynch, one of the most successful investors of all time, shows you how to use what you already know to make money in the market. You'll discover why smart money is not so smart - and why you may be a better stock picker than the pros, how to follow your hunches and back them up with facts, how to disregard reports on the economy and pick your own time to buy and sell, and how to determine which types of stocks are right for you. Lynch is the former manager of the $9 billion Fidelity Magellan Fund, where he earned investors a $190,000 return on a $10,000 investment.

Peter Lynch speaks from experience and teaches common sense solutions. The quote that sticks for me is "Many people would rather lose money quickly rather than win money slowly".

Histoire
Superintelligence asks the questions: What happens when machines surpass humans in general intelligence? Will artificial agents save or destroy us? Nick Bostrom lays the foundation for understanding the future of humanity and intelligent life. The human brain has some capabilities that the brains of other animals lack. It is to these distinctive capabilities that our species owes its dominant position. If machine brains surpassed human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence could become extremely powerful - possibly beyond our control.

Not as exciting as expected

I was disappointed by this book that everybody seems to like and recommend. Rather than giving a personal vision of the future it explores all the possible futures in a rather dystopian way. The style is also quite boring.

Histoire
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Message received

The greatest idea in this book is in the tittle. You have the right and responsibility to pick your own set of values, don't expect a self-help book (or anyone else) to do it for you. Well crafted message. Some of the stories were interesting, but it could also easily fit into a shorter format.

Histoire
"Existe-t-il une expérience plus désirable que celle de la joie ? Plus intense et plus profonde que le plaisir, plus concrète que le bonheur, la joie est la manifestation de notre puissance vitale. La joie ne se décrète pas, mais peut-on l'apprivoiser ? La provoquer ? La cultiver ? J'aimerais proposer ici une voie d'accomplissement de soi fondée sur la puissance de la joie."

Pas assez puissant
Rédigé le : 27/08/2017
Je me suis surtout ennuyer. Même si le sujet est important, il est probablement plus intéressant de ressentir la joie en faisant autre chose plutôt que de disserter dessus en lisant ce livre.
