This is the best book I have ever read. Oriana Fallaci is one of the best writers. She writes with great poignancy. Not a sentence is wasted. It's a book about choice, love and loss. It talks about life from every point of view. Not just the woman but also the unborn baby. Each perspective, each person involved whether it is the doctor, her friend, the father or her parents, are given a voice. She writes beautifully and knowing that this is her voice reading her book, moves me to tears. I have read it in both Italian and English. The first time, 20 years ago and it hits me every time. Given the period in which it was written and being a woman myself, I probably would have followed the same path. I see autobiographical elements in this book knowing much of what Oriana did in her life, her other writings and her work as a journalist. A book for both men and women, pro-life or pro-choice or whatever the "so-called know it all society" want to call it.

The stars speak for themselves but I will add that my Spanish did improve. I will probably buy something like this or in the series again. I found myself recognizing words covered in Duolingo so I think the stories are a great addition to the overall language experience. I would have liked a pdf copy of the stories to check vocabulary.

Challenging but understandable as italian is not my native language although I have studied it. The addition of the pdf is great. Beautifully performed.

Love literature that challenges my thinking. Calvino does this. Makes me view the world differently. Almost like abstract painting.

I am grateful to writer Mary L. Tabor who suggested I read Pam Houston. What a gift. I didn't expect, when I bought this book, to be confronted with the way my own mother raised me. It was unexpected but strengthened me in so many ways. Survival and hope are the two words that come to mind if I had to describe Pam Houston's book. Survival of the earth and ourselves which can only be achieved if we surround ourselves with the right people and not be afraid of stepping out of our comfort zones even when the odds seemed stacked up against us. It's this that I received from this beautifully written book.

I had never read anything like this before. I could relate to some elements like gossip and the consequences of that. The author has written an intriguing book with a unique style enhanced here by Bríd Brennan's reading and performance.

That's the best word to describe it. Some passages are worthy to note but I found it dragged on. Much could have been said in fewer words. I won't read it again. No doubt Nietzsche was a genius in his thinking but not all of his thoughts translated well on paper.

Any criticism of this manifesto should think about context. When and why it was written and who it was trying to help and how unfortunately it was manipulated and distorted at the hands of dictators. Anything, even religion, can be used as an excuse for violence. A thought provoking text. Excellent narration.
