Too Much and Never Enough

It seems Donald Trump has been educated on the grounds that the rules don't apply to him and that it was/is vital to cultivate a successful and self-confident image and speech - a seller of the "fake it until you make it" motto. But there was no "made it" here. Successive years of bad business, bankruptcies, doubtful loans and tax evasion exposed Trump's inability to do business despite some publicity and cosmetic scams (mostly on the social pages of publications) to preserve the Trump brand.

This book illustrates chapters of childhood, adolescence and adult life of the current president of the most powerful country in the world; I don't know the degree of veracity and how reliable the author's memory is. Regardless, some things make sense when faced with Trump's demeanor and statements.

Afghanistan evokes images of war, social inequality, veiled women and religious intolerance. Hosseini's writing is not particularly evocative and there are parts of the narrative that are somewhat forced and uninspired in their predictability, with very stereotyped characters.

This book fell short of expectations. Its strength lies in its themes and in making us aware of various episodes of Afghan history and customs (everyday life during the Soviet and Taliban occupations, the abominable custom of bacha bazi (still practiced, despite the penal framework!), folklore, etc.) .

"A thousand splendid suns" remains my favorite of the author's body of work.

A good reading

The author is direct and unapologetic, as she should be. This is the tale of her path, with a lot of good and bad. But it's her tale to tell and she does it very well.

Lucid remarks, self-absorbed comments, generous compliments. G. Doyle is a contradiction and a human being, true to herself. Untamed is a good book and it can be a life boat to a lot of women. For others, it can be a wake up call or a reminder. In the end, even with all the clichés, it's worth it.

I really enjoyed reading Snowden's account of his story, especially the details regarding his revelation and subsequent "escape" to Russia. His telling is extremely believable and being born around the same time and having seen the boom of internet, his quick professional ascension and the time the institutions took to catch up (relying on young unexperienced but tech-savy kids) is very real. That's how it went around.

That said, I'd like to research a bit further the chronological line and some facts, but mass surveillance does exist and the line between national security and individual privacy can be very thin. I think this subject should be discussed openly and citizens should be informed and have a saying in the way their data is collected and processed.

I really liked the story and Sadhguru`s view on things. He's a wise one.

The performances were a bit wooden but maybe that's because they didn't want to make a big production out of it, which is good.

Arrogant tone, clichés and a bad narrator; seems like a computer voice. Avoid wasting your time with this.

A lot of bravado and some arrogant sentences, it's not about writing a novella, be it in a week or more. The author goes on and on about his work ethic, his accomplishments, his choice of jobs as a freelancer and time management. Misleading title.

A quick and brief intro to INFJ personality type, and I stress brief, as it's short and general.

If the subject is completely new to you, there's food for thought. If not, you will almost certainly learn nothing new.

Nice book, narrated by the master of horror himself, Mr King, who candidly talks about his experience and advises new writers to navigate the waters of writing the manuscript, polish it and give it a go at publishing it. All with humor with a side of realism. Especially liked the last chapter.

Elegant, fluid narration by Perdita Weeks.

Great job from the author, Madeline Miller, in bringing demi-god sorceress Circe back to life, humanizing (pun intended) some of her choices and avoiding following the usual tale of the witch that is portrayed in many book as a capricious and jealous woman, blindedbu her desires. Well done and an interesting take. Really liked it.
