H.G. Wells
Legendary author and futurist H. G. Wells turns his attention from imaginary worlds to the future of our own. Written in the turbulent years between the two world wars, Wells argues that humanity has become increasingly interconnected while remaining divided by nationalism, economic rivalry, and outdated political institutions. His “open conspiracy” is not a secret plot, but precisely the opposite: a public, voluntary movement of individuals committed to building a more rational, peaceful, and cooperative world. Wells envisions people transcending national boundaries, rejecting war as an instrument of policy, expanding scientific knowledge, and gradually creating institutions capable of addressing problems on a global scale. The Open Conspiracy reveals the social thinker behind The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds. Nearly a century after its publication, its questions about nationalism, technology, international cooperation, and humanity’s shared future remain strikingly familiar.
