Francis Bacon
A visionary work of early science fiction and philosophical thought, The New Atlantis imagines a remote island society where knowledge, discovery, and scientific inquiry are dedicated to the betterment of humanity. When European sailors arrive on the island of Bensalem, they encounter a civilisation shaped by learning, innovation, and enlightened governance, offering a compelling vision of progress centuries ahead of its time.
Francis Bacon (1561–1626) was an English philosopher, statesman, and essayist whose advocacy of observation and experimentation helped lay the foundations of the modern scientific method. A leading figure of the English Renaissance, Bacon's writings on philosophy, politics, and science—including The New Atlantis and Essays—have had a lasting influence on Western thought and the development of modern inquiry.
