September 1241. Robert of Hadlow, Templar knight, is on trial for his life.
Twenty years ago, his accusers say, he turned his back on his Brethren to join the army of the most bloodthirsty warlord the world has ever known – Genghis Khan.
Robert claims he was on a secret mission to bring the Mongol hordes to the defence of the Holy Land to aid its beleaguered Christian knights. But will he be believed? Or will Robert be condemned to a traitor’s death – and bring the entire Templar Order to ruin?
From the endless grasslands of the Eurasian steppe to the burning sands of the Gobi and beyond, Robert recounts his extraordinary adventures with the Mongol army.
A tale of love and loss, tragedy and high adventure, of silent killing and the slaughter of thousands. And what a man will sacrifice to survive, serve his cause and save his family.
