Summary
Elantris was built on magic and it thrived. But then the magic began to fade and Elantris began to rot. Now its shattered citizens face domination by a powerful Imperium motivated by dogged religious views. Can a young Princess unite the people of Elantris, and lead a rebellion against the imperial zealots? Brandon Sanderson's debut fantasy showed his skill as a storyteller and an imaginer of baroque magical systems to be fully developed from the start.©2005 Brandon Sanderson (P)2008 Recorded Books LLC

All-around enjoyable and not cliché

The characters were interesting but not multidimensional enough in terms of personality. The main character overly optimistic throughout and one had guy too simplistically evil. The character Galladon was annoying because of his constant use of the words kolo and sule. It would have been funny as a temporary thing but because he's so present throughout the story and says the words so much it gets old fast.
The voice actor was a bad choice. Whenever he was narrating it sounded like the kind of upbeat weird pacing of an advertisement voiceover. His voices for certain characters was good but many others really bad. I felt he also got many emotions wrong while he was doing voices, often sounding far too upbeat. His narration really spoiled the story for me personally and I'd recommend you just read the book instead.
Not as good as later works but still worth reading
