A warehouse shelf fell on him. He woke inside a 900-year-old egg.
Wes Dunleavy is as tall as a horse, can't walk on four legs, can't fly, and only sneezes sparks. Under Hatchling Law, that makes him a baby. So, he's off to dragon school with seven drooling toddlers who all outrank him.
His minder is a red dragon with a sharp tongue and a secret. His attendant is a kobold butler who wont stop calling him "my lord." And he's been adopted by a lazy gold-bag mimic that swallowed the Septenary's crown and refuses to give it back.
Wes has one goal: find a way home to the sister he never called back.
Every dragon is born to a Hue that shapes its breath. Wes is teal, a Hue unseen in nine centuries. Even stranger, he can catch another dragon's power and make it his. One accidental zap from a staticky blue hatchling, and suddenly Wes is sneezing lightning.
But the dragons of Ammakh are dying out. This spring, 160 eggs were sung, and only 7 woke. The elders call it a natural ebb, though the numbers don't add up. Someone is hiding the truth, and a human guild is already hunting the dragon who hatched.
The question isn't how many Hues one dragon can hold. It's what Wes becomes when he holds them all.
