The Apostle John wrote, “Having many things to write unto you, I would not with ink and pen write unto thee.” His words often come to mind when I use social media and think about the many eyes watching what we share.

Some people come to our pages to debate our words, judge our thoughts, or compete with what we are doing. Not everyone will agree with what we write. Sometimes those watching may even be people we know, including family members or coworkers.

The internet encourages us to share our projects, plans, ideas, and accomplishments. But I believe there is wisdom in keeping some things private. Not everyone who sees our progress will be happy for us, although we should not assume that everyone has bad intentions. We simply do not have to reveal every part of our lives to the world.

Revelation 10:4 reminds us that St. John was told to seal up what the seven thunders had spoken and not to write it down.

Daniel 12:4 also speaks of shutting up the words and sealing the book until the appointed time.

These scriptures remind me that not everything must be written or revealed immediately. There may be a time to speak, a time to write, and a time to remain silent.

Even when we have knowledge to share, wisdom can help us recognize when and how to share it. Sometimes, what we are working on is best kept private until the right time.

The InkPost reflection: We may have many things on our minds, but we do not have to put everything in ink. Some thoughts are for sharing, some are for safekeeping, and some may be meant for a later time.
