SynopsisThe month of Cheshvan possesses a special quality and blessing, as demonstrated by the fact that it is the month in which Shlomo HaMelech completed the construction of the First Beis Hamikdash. This is relevant to every Jew, because every Jew participated in the building of the Beis Hamikdash. It is therefore also understood that the month of Cheshvan is particularly auspicious for the building of the Third Beis Hamikdash, in which every individual can take part by increasing in Torah and mitzvos and in Ahavas Yisroel. Within the month of Cheshvan itself there are special days that are particularly auspicious: The 7th of Cheshvan – when “the last Jew would reach the Euphrates River” on his journey home from Yerushalayim after the Festvial Pilgrimage. In terms of our divine service, this is the day on which we begin to unpack the spiritual luggage amassed during the month of Tishrei and to apply it throughout the entire year. The 15th of Cheshvan – when “the moon is in its full state.” The moon’s renewal gives encouragement to the Jewish people, who “are destined to be renewed like it.”Even during the time of exile, one must conduct oneself according to Hashem’s will, and in this way we merit “to be renewed like it” in the future Redemption.
