A two-centimeter brushstroke error and a single brass key in the ice set off a chain of discoveries that unmasked a nine-month art theft at a small Pennsylvania institute-so small it started in a county road-grader operator's morning. How did a green-bow Abloy Protec2 key and a misplaced Prussian blue stroke reveal who knew the museum too well?
In this episode, we follow the day the Farwell Institute discovered a near-perfect forgery in Gallery Four, the arrival of the sole state art-crime investigator, and the paperwork and physical clues that turned routine records into proof. What hidden routine and human slips allowed a 150-year-old, $840,000 painting to be replaced overnight?

- A county road-grader operator found a brass key with a green bow stamped "11" on the morning of March 14, 2017.
- The stolen original was a 150-year-old oil on white oak panel appraised at $840,000.
- Conservator Alice Tremblay identified the forgery after 40 minutes; the Prussian blue stroke was placed two centimeters too low.
- Key Eleven was kept in a lost-and-found coffee can for 11 days before anyone contacted the Farwell.
- The paper key ledger showed Key Eleven signed out and signed back in on February 26, 2017, with entries later found to be written in the same sitting.
