DAY 293
🔥 “POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS”
Series: THE CHURCH IS BORN
📖 Acts 3
The greatest power of the church has never been found in its resources, programs, or personalities. It has always been found in the risen Jesus Christ!
In Acts 3, Peter and John are heading to the temple for prayer when they encounter a man who has been lame from birth. Every day, this man is carried to the temple gate to beg for money. His life has been defined by physical limitations and dependence upon the generosity of others.
But on this particular day, everything changes.
The man asks Peter and John for money, expecting another small gift to help him survive.
Instead, Peter gives him something completely unexpected.
📖 Acts 3:6
"Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!"
Immediately, the man's feet and ankles are strengthened. He stands, walks, leaps, and begins praising God!
A man who had never walked before is now walking into the temple!
But here's what makes this chapter so powerful.
The miracle was never intended to make Peter famous. It was intended to make Jesus known!
As the astonished crowd gathers, Peter immediately redirects their attention away from himself and toward the risen Christ.
He boldly proclaims that Jesus, whom they had rejected and crucified, has been raised from the dead.
The healing was not accomplished through Peter's personal power or holiness. It happened through the authority of Jesus Christ.
And then Peter delivers the message that matters most.
📖 Acts 3:19
"Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out."
What an incredible promise!
The man at the temple gate needed physical healing, but the crowd gathered around Peter needed something even greater.
They needed forgiveness.
They needed reconciliation with God.
They needed salvation through Jesus Christ.
And the same is true for us today.
🔥 Here are four powerful truths from Acts 3:
✅ 1. Jesus Christ is alive and still at work.
The apostles weren't proclaiming the memory of a dead religious teacher. They were witnesses of the living, resurrected Savior.
✅ 2. God's power should always point people toward God's glory.
Peter refused to take credit for the miracle. His desire was not personal recognition but gospel proclamation.
✅ 3. Our greatest need is spiritual, not material.
We often come to God seeking relief from difficult circumstances, but our greatest need is forgiveness and a restored relationship with Him.
✅ 4. The greatest blessing is being turned away from sin and toward Christ.
Acts 3:26 reminds us that God sent His Servant to bless His people by turning them from their wickedness. That's a blessing far greater than anything this world can offer!
Here's the challenge for us today:
When God places hurting, struggling, or searching people in our lives, are we simply trying to improve their circumstances, or are we also pointing them toward Jesus?
Christian compassion should always move us to care for people's physical and practical needs. But we must never forget that humanity's greatest problem is sin, and our only Savior is Jesus Christ.
The miracle opened the door. The gospel delivered the message. And Jesus received the glory!
