Part 2: What happens when we bring our problems to Jesus, even when we have no idea what He might do? In Part 2 of our conversation on the wedding at Cana, Pastor Rob Chifikoyo reflects on Mary's response, the demanding work of the servants, and the God who can bring what Rob calls “a burst of new life” into an unexpected moment.

Show Notes

In Part 1, we explored why Jesus chose a wedding at Cana as the setting for His first sign. But what happens when we stop examining the story from a distance and begin asking how it might speak into our own lives?

In Part 2, Dr. Chris Whyte and I continue our conversation with Pastor Rob Chifikoyo of Known Church in Oceanside, California, who shares how John 2 has shaped his understanding of faith, obedience, and the surprising work of Jesus.

Rob draws our attention to Mary, who recognizes a problem and goes straight to Jesus, even though she doesn't know exactly what He will do. Then there are the servants, who are asked to fill six enormous stone jars with water. It's easy to read past that detail, but moving somewhere between 120 and 180 gallons of water would have required some serious work.

And then there's the wine itself. Good wine ordinarily takes time to produce, but Jesus brings it about in a moment.

Rob describes this as “a burst of new life.”

Together, we reflect on what it means to bring our needs to Jesus, to participate in work whose outcome we cannot control, and to remain open to the possibility that God may be doing something we couldn't have anticipated.

The wedding at Cana isn't simply a story about water becoming wine. It's an invitation to pay attention to the people surrounding Jesus, the work they're asked to do, and the extraordinary abundance that follows.

Scripture explored: John 2:1–11.

Guest: Pastor Rob Chifikoyo, Known Church, Oceanside, California.
