In November 2004, U.S. Navy aviators operating off the coast of Southern California encountered something they could not readily identify.
Commander David Fravor and Lieutenant Commander Alex Dietrich described an unusual white object over the Pacific Ocean. Personnel aboard the USS Princeton also reported extraordinary radar observations. Years later, the encounter became central to the national conversation about unidentified anomalous phenomena.
But what does the evidence actually establish?
In Episode 2 of Evidentiary, host Lew Austin Hastings investigates the Nimitz encounter, examining firsthand testimony, the Navy's publicly released video, the reported radar observations, and later accounts—including material from Jay Stratton's 2026 book.
We separate firsthand observations from later recollections, distinguish documented facts from unverified claims, and explore the questions that remain unanswered.
The central question isn't simply what the witnesses saw. It's what the available evidence can prove.
