Abstract: Workplace mental health has long been managed as a matter of individual coping, addressed through employee assistance programs, resilience training, and wellbeing apps. A growing body of evidence and a shift in regulation now point in a different direction. Psychosocial hazards such as excessive workload, low job control, poor recognition, unclear roles, and weak communication are increasingly treated as occupational safety risks that employers must identify, assess, and control at the source. This article reviews the conceptual foundations of psychosocial risk management, the prevalence and consequences of work-related psychological strain, and the evidence on organizational-level interventions. It examines five evidence-based responses: systematic psychosocial risk assessment, workload and working-time redesign, job control and supervisor support, protected recovery and communication norms, and safety-style governance with capable managers. Drawing on examples from public administration, information technology, long-term care, telecommunications, automotive manufacturing, health services, and defense, it concludes with guidance for building durable organizational capability for psychologically healthy work.
