The book itself is sort of fun, but this is the worst setting of a text I have ever seen. It is more like divining a text than reading it, there are so many typos. Short list, in the first few pages: bate for hate, Read for Head, St. dare's for St. Clare's, Fm for I'm (repeatedly.) This is just from the first few pages, and the quality gets worse later in the book. Many words have no spaces between them, for instance "Thetwinsdidn'tlikeheratall." I don't think this would be any fun for a child to try to read, and Amazon should certainly not be charging money for a product of such execrable quality.
As a little girl I used to read Blyton's books in German. Now my girls are reading them in original English, and although quite a bit out-dated considering manners, habits and environment, human emotions and experiences at that age level stil remain. I highly recommend it, especially for mother/daughter read-aloud time. What wonderful memories...
I love Enid Blytons and grew up reading this series, so this review is not a commentary on the book itself. It's more a review of the quality of the e-book. There were typos through the series, and not small ones. Sentences and even entire paragraphs were repeated at random intervals, while some ended abruptly. Words were substituted erroneously. I'm annoyed as I bought the entire series and found errors in every single book.
The book is a not a bad book. I quite enjoyed it. But I would have liked it more if there had been fewer proofreading errors. All the same the concept of adventures in a same-gender school as presented in this pilot of the series shows as much promise as Malory Towers. Another feather in Enid's cap. Bravo!
