Amy Tan's latest novel is to my mind the best of all her novels. It is very well written, both sad and funny, yet thought-provoking,she takes the reader to the rain forest of Burma via China on an unforgettable journey of (self)discovery. The story is narrated by a ghost which sets an unusual perspective. It is an informative, lively and original story.Fiction and reality are hard to tell apart.Highly recommended.

I have read many of Amy Tan’s books and loved each more than the other; The Joy Luck Club, The Valley of Amazement, The Kitchen Gods Wife, The Bonesetters Daughter, The Hundred Secret Senses. So when this book came across my Book Bub selections I didn’t hesitate. Ohhhhh, this was very different. It is the ramblings of a deceased person, and I mean, rambling! No characterization, no progression. The reader has no idea where the narrative is going. The people mentioned are just “mentioned”. If there is plot development I could not bare to read this long enough to encounter it!
