Liam is special.
I knew that the first time he came into my class. His body language, his demeanor, and the way he watches me. Going by the way he stares, I know he has been searching for me for a long time. Maybe even all of his life. I’ve had a few private conferences with Liam about his essays. He is a talented writer and shows promise. He tells me he wants to become a professional. The essays he turns in are gay erotica. In each story, the pen-named main character is Liam himself, painfully expressing his desire to be with an older man. What started out as a creative writing project has become a thinly veiled cry for attention, a way of expressing his deepest desires. After reading a few of his essays, I realized they were clumsy love letters he was writing to me.
I make a decision.
A decision that has been in the back of my mind since my tenure at this campus.
