Description
The Boy Scouts of Woodcraft Camp is the first of Thornton Burgess' Boy Scout books. It features Walter, a scout who has never been to camp. Walter and his fellow scouts experience new adventures. They discover and appreciate people of different backgrounds. As with all Thornton Burgess books, the author promotes good moral lessons for the young reader and listener.
Thornton W. Burgess was born in Sandwich, Massachusetts, on January 14, 1874. He graduated from Sandwich High School in 1891, afterward taking a course in Comer's Commercial College in Boston. After a few years in business life, he entered the editorial field as one of the editors of Phelps Publishing and Orange Judd Companies and was for several years one of the editors of Good Housekeeping Magazine, for which he wrote extensively.
For some years, he had been a contributor to many of the leading magazines. Using the name of W. B. Thornton, he won recognition as a writer on outdoor life and nature topics. He was an ardent lover of nature and since boyhood had spent his spare time in the woods and fields. His vacations were spent with rod, gun, and camera, camping and canoe cruising.
